Rather than looking at things from a negative perspective of "imagining life without" don't look at it from the point of view of "omitting" or "doing without" but cultivate a mindset from a point of inclusion and all the new and exciting and delicious "treats" you'll be learning about. Currently for me I am going into the Raw food direction and it's been a lot of fun discovering and trying all these new tasty treats. I've posted some of the new recipes I've tried to the Raw Food forum. It really is a lot of fun. Cultivate a positive approach and not look at it some kinda hardship or self denial.
You can be disease free but what you hafta resign yourself to is that things like lifelong diseases you can't just be a "dabbler" you got to go at it full force or you are not likely to see benefits or they will be so slow and subtle that you are very likely to be discouraged easily. If you want to inspire yourself get yourself the video "Simply Raw - Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days". In this docu-film they take a group of people from a cross section of society that have life long afflictions with diabetes (typeI & II) which by current medical standards is considered "incurable". It's not about asthma but it just shows an example that it is possible to be disease free and not be bound by the big pharma medical machine that their main raison d'etre is to profit from our misfortunes
It is both amazing and very inspiring to see these folks that saw no hope or better yet were not aware that there was an "alternative", reverse their need for insulin in a matter of days. The film does have a balance where you also see the ones that stick to it and conquer to the ones with such ingrained habits that even though they see all the improvements they quit. and then there is the dabbler that sees the imrpovemnts but can not commit 100%.
While you say that you understand that the real thing is the lifestyle change you still are putting a bit too much emphasis and expectations on what the MC will do. It is just a tool that takes out the trash. no more no less. As I always advice folks to not make a big deal of it cause in reality it is but very small step and the easiest at that since you don't have to make any decisions and everything is all worked out for you.
