Re: Chris needs Some Meat for health. But you haven't tried raw meat as part of your diet yet. Sashimi is a good start. Even Don Quixote eats raw sashimi. by chrisb1 ..... News Forum

Thank you DQ.
A timely piece of humor. I laughed out loud at that one.
Grz,
My reasons for finding raw meat unpalatable have everything to do with killing another living creature: a reverence for life as in the Hindu tradition.
Animals that eat meat in the wild of course consume the whole of the animal: blood, guts, flesh, and organs while these are still warm/hot after the kill. Not my idea of satisfying hunger.
Plants tend to be more submissive and give-up quite easily to that basic human need.
Just 5 good reasons for not eating any meat..............
# Conservation of Fossil fuel. It takes 78 calories of fossil fuel to produce 1 calorie of beef protein; 35 calories for 1 calorie of pork; 22 calories for 1 of poultry; but just 1 calorie of fossil fuel for 1 calorie of soybeans. By eating plant foods instead of animal foods, I help conserve our non-renewable sources of energy.
# Water Conservation. It takes 3 to 15 times as much water to produce animal protein as it does plant protein. As a vegetarian I contribute to water conservation.
# Efficient use of grains. It takes up to 16 pounds of soybeans and grains to produce 1 lb. of beef and 3 to 6 lbs. to produce 1 lb of turkey & egg. By eating grain foods directly, I make the food supply more efficient & that contributes to the environment.
# Soil conservation. When grains & legumes are used more efficiently, our precious topsoil is automatically made more efficient in its use. We use less agricultural resources to provide for the same number of people.
# Saving our forests. Tropical forests in Brazil and other tropic regions are destroyed daily, in part, to create more acreage to raise livestock. By not supporting the meat industry, I directly reduce the demand to pillage these irreplaceable treasures of nature. Since the forest land "filters" our air supply and contains botanical sources for new medicines, this destruction is irreversible.
"Animals are my friends-----and I don't eat my friends". -- George Bernard Shaw.
"Some people are still going to want to eat meat ... we do agree, though, that vegetarianism is a healthier diet". --David Stroud of the American Meat Institute.
>>Hey, I grew up around and on farms... we did this as a matter of fact. No problem for me... perhaps for you due to your world view and upbringing<<.
"I grew up in cattle country--that's why I became a vegetarian. Meat stinks, for the animals, the environment, and your health". -- K.D. Lang.
Grz, I have no "vested interest" (whatever that refers to) in defending my "book" and "take" on carnivore v omnivore. If you eat meat, you are a "meat-eater" and therefore a carnivore. (opinion). Labels are misleading. If you eat meat.........you eat meat. That's it.
Re' the B12 issue I suggest you read this article very carefully.................

The point I was making Grz about grazing animals meeting their protein needs from plant-life, was just an example of not having to eat meat to meet protein needs.
If you would like to illustrate your sources that these animals graze on worms, insects and such I would be obliged.
Cooking some plant foods is needed to break down the cellulose and allow the vegetation to be more easily digestible, although I have eaten a raw cauliflower and broccoli grated in a salad: very nice actually.
Grasses are plant-foods for certain types of animals, but the point I made was that many species are adapted to eat plant foods of one type or another. You are right though......we are not adapted to eat grass.
I wouldn't eat "deadly nightshade" either.
True some people have better digestion than others and can tolerate meat more easily, but this has more to do with the efficiency and strength of their digestive system than anything else.
I know people who "eat like a horse" (excuse the pun) and remain thin or underweight. However, after a water-only-fast of varying lengths, this digestive efficiency is resolved and weight is gained with less food than before.
>>Again... one size, does not fit all as far as diet is concerned<<.
Unless you are goodsamaritan55 and then everyone MUST eat raw meat!!!!
Nice talking to you grz, but my "beef" (oops. Done it again)
is with goodsamaritan55 who INSISTED.......I MUST EAT MEAT.
I am getting on just fine without it.
My choice. My prerogative.
Chrisb1.
