I've worked with my hands my whole life, and had used cable ties both personally and professionally. Police departments currently use cable ties in place of handcuffs. There is much less weight underwater also. Often things like cable ties are used to simply secure things together regardless of the weight.
I apologize for the medication insinuation, just trying to determine the validity of your claim.
