I'm a male of 43 years of age, and back in the summer I experienced a tingling sensation down my left hand side. I also experienced feeling cold in warm situations, brain fog and I became forgetful.

I am also suffering from hypertension and blood tests reveled that I have subclinical hypothyroidism. My cholestrol level is high, which suprised me because I have always been careful with what I eat, and I have never smoked.

When the tingling sensation did not go away, I tried organic coconut oil after seeing it advertised on the net. I had to purchase two tubs. On taking just a couple of teaspoons a day, I developed headaches.

After seeing a Neurologist (who in the absence of an MRI scan) he was almost sure that my problems were related to hypothyroidism. I tried coconut oil once more and the headaches were unbarable. I also experienced visual disturbances and was also sick. It seems my digestive system was having problems digesting the oil which produced excess acid. I stopped taking the oil, and my headaches disappeared.

I would be extreemly careful taking coconut oil, because hypothyroidism is caused by a number of factors, for example I have normal free thyroxine, but an elevated hormone level.

Strange as it may seem I have discovered (while being physically sick) a no pain throat infection, but I would avoid coconut oil at all costs as at the end of the day it is saturated fat.

I cannot help but see the promotion of coconut oil as just another scam aimed at those that have weight problems. Promoting it as a cure for hypothyroidism is dangerous and totally unethical and irresponsible.
