Personally I would not use baking soda. You can get powdered electrolytes either in single packet from Alacer and drink throughout the day or powdered bottle from Ph-ion. I mix the powder with chlorella and water and drink 15 min prior to my Coffee-Enema (the chlorella absorbs the toxins and the electrolytes replace what is lost). You can also make your own electrolyte drink with water, a pinch of Sea Salt (Redmonds or Himalayan Pink) fresh lemon or lime juice, and stevia.
Have you read Dr. Jensen's Guide to Better Bowel Care? I would seriously consider making a "diet" book and writing down everything you eat for a week or 2. Then re-evaluate what you are or are not eating. All fiber is not created equal. Some fiber, like psyllium, will draw water from your body in order to move through your colon. This will leave your bm's hard. You need both soluble and insoluble fiber. I use ground flaxseed in my protein drink daily and eat a lot of vegetables every day and some fruit. I limit my bread and pasta as this has a tendency for constipation.
Like you I am mindful of the fact that 2 of my relatives had diverticulitis. One had about 8 inches of lower bowel removed and had trouble with bm's ever since.
If I were you, I would read EVERYTHING on bowel care. There are a lot of free EBooks here on CureZone as well as suggestions on what to read. I would also look into a Colon Cleanse product and/or colonics from a reputable colon therapist. If colonics are not your thing you can add to your enemas to help remove old fecal matter. Just visit the Bowel Care page here on CureZone //www.curezone.org/cleanse/enema/
Also, try some stomach exercises. If your abdominal muscles are weak your bowels may be weak as well. See this previous post on Curezone //www.curezone.org/forums/am.asp?i=1507495
Happy cleansing. Just keep trying for your goal of a daily bm on your own.
