I have been suffering with what I assume is candidasis since March this year. I became slowly convinced that it was candidasis because it was the only thing that explained my random symptoms. I'm sure you have seen enough lists of symptoms, so I'll cut to the chase. Constipation was a major one- as it has been for a lot of my life, and I'd start the day with grapefruit, coffee and ice water to jump start my bowels- and when I discovered psyllium it was a godsend. I have been taking that for perhaps a couple of months now, and there are still times when it feels like my BMs are 'incomplete'. Last week, however, I started drinking senna tea mixed in with the psyllium, and had amazing results. My brain fog finally lifted (after over a month of terrible to mild die-off headaches and muscle aches and so on) and I had some energy back. I then read that senna is 'addictive' and that you shouldn't take it longer than a week at a time. I decided to stop two days ago, and plunged right back into extreme bloating, discomfort, and horrible headaches. I then read terrible things about fibre stretching your gut and being generally harmful, so quit the psyllium for one day. The ensuing pain was so bad I decided to go back to it, and lo and behold, this morning's BM had a clump of white strands in it- something I haven't seen since when I started taking the psyllium. I suppose I have also 'cheated' on the diet by eating two red apples this week and a shot of vodka (I know!) so perhaps that was what stimulated it.
My question is, after all of that, is that has anyone used senna for a prolonged period and then gone back to having normal BMs? Did they have to increase their dosage and become reliant on it, and thereafter unable to 'go'? I did Colonix about five years ago for constipation-type IBS, and recall that I drank the Kleritea for about a month, and eventually went back to normal BMs. I am just concerned this time that a mix of psyllium and senna is the only thing that has really extinguished my die off symptoms, so I'd like to stick with it, but not harm my digestive system long term. Does anyone have any opinion about this?
