Also, not sure buying a yogurt maker is needed if on a budget as I'm sure using a bulb in the oven trick, would work just as well.

Not needed at all, went two years without but not because I didn't want one. They where hard to find since the first batch was made in Canada in the 70s. Used models where selling for $200. This new one is so much simpler and like I said cheaper than my toaster...
