It is due to a number of reasons including bond strength of the molecule\compound, the direction and rate of spin, among other things such as a lack of the synergistic cofactors that the body must rob or dig up from someplace in order to effectively use the ascorbic acid to greatest effect - buffered or not.

I agree with you on the use of natural sources...
