I know this is an old post, but I still get some questions about the subject. I deal with both types, and both types are 80% Technical Sodium Chlorite. In fact, one particular brand of powder has 0% Sodium Chlorate, and only 0.07% Sodium Hydroxide, with no traces of heavy metals. Far superior to any Technical Grade flake I have ever seen as far as the inert
ingredients go.

I asked Jim Humble about this about a month ago, and if he actually preferred flake for some reason. He replied that he has used both and both work equally well.

I assume he recommended flake at the time, as most American manufacturers make flake, and there is a lot of different white powder running around, like sodium hypochlorite, that someone without a lot of knowledge may accidentally purchase from an unscrupulous dealer.
Also Chinese product is very inconsistent, in spite of their ISO ratings, with higher levels of undesirable inert ingredients.

A pound makes a bit over a quart. It weighs more than a quart of water, but the chlorite is in solution, not in suspension. It doesn't add much volume.
I use roughly 30 pounds of NaClO2 and and 77 pounds of water
to get about 10 gallons after I filter it.
Another thing is there is always a variance in strength of Miracle-Mineral-Supplement ...UNLESS.... the person selling it actually has a Certificate of Analysis on the lot they are working with, and does the math to get a 22.4% solution. A straight 28-72 mix will almost always be a bit stronger.
The amount of NaClO2 can vary by a couple percentage points.
80% Tech grade means a minimum of 80% with margin for error upwards.
