I hurt my back more than 20 years ago from not stratching after I ran long distances, and I was crippled for 18 years, until, realizing I was getting weaker, I decided that if I was going to be in pain, it was better to be strong and in pain, rather than weak and in pain. I made some mistakes. I started weight lifting (which was good) to rebuild my strength. But my body was not in alignment, so I was strengthening compensating muscles rather than design muscles. Pete Egoscue's Pain Free: A Revolutionary Method for Curing Chronic Pain gave me the answer to alignment. It's well worth reading. The best book on body alignment I've ever read--and it lead me to Bob Anderson's Stretching, another excellant book that should be read before doing Yoga--which lead me back to Yoga, and to doing Yoga without hurting yourself. Yes, I do Yoga, some 2 to 3 hours daily, plus walking 2-5 miles (and just started running again), but to crown the Yoga my wife and I got Rolfed--which is the best money I ever spent. Perfect alignment is an ideal, and I may never reach the ideal, but I'm working on it. If your body hurts from the yoga, youre straining yourself--that;s the story of my life. Check out www.yogajournal.com, and get their mag. Do Pete Egoscue's exercises till you're loosened up properly, etc. And then u might want to visit the author of Dead Doctors Don't Lie, his website--www.drwallach.com--for the latest on colloidal minerals. Well, I've just about summed up the direction of my life for the past 25 years (or the past 3 or so). I can move again, thanks to Pete Egoscue--www.egoscue.com--well worth visiting. Now, when I ache, it's before I stretch or do yoga. O, BTW, I'll be 70 shortly. But age is in your head (or should I say bodymind). Good luck! Namaste.
