Hi Joy22,

Use only 2 cups for your coffee retention enema and lie on your LEFT side. Don’t change position except when you need to get up to expel. You can do two of these enemas one after the other with a ten to fifteen minute retention.

Taking a cleansing enema before you do the coffee enema is mainly to clean out your lower large intestines (rectum and sigmoid section) and facilitate retention. It is not a requirement.
