Raw meat is neutral and cooked meat is slightly acidic if we want to relay on the foods ph.
I am curious how they come up with this being that meat is made up of amino acids and the animals cells trap lactic acid and uric acid when they are killed, not to mention the many other acids found in meat such as pyruvic acid, malic acid, citric acid, hyaluronic acid,............
Body balances it's ph with calcium. If calcium is deficient it takes it from the bones(I might be wrong here).
Bones are a last resort method of reducing acidity. Respiration is the primary method, then bicarbonate, dumping of hydrogen ions in the urine, and stomach acid formation, which uses up some of the hydrogen. The primary causes of bone loss are silica deficiencies and hyperparathyroidism.
Is your mother diabetic because if she is she might have developed ketoacidosis (ketogenic diet does not cause it). From wikipedia: "The presence of high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia) caused by the lack of insulin can lead to further acidity in the blood."
Maybe HV can help here: If she was diabetic and consumed high fat diet then cheating with sugary things would cause high blood sugar and insulin resistance from the fat? This leads to ketoacidosis.
It is more involved than that but that is part of it. Diabetic ketoacidosis though is not that common since it is associated with uncontrolled diabetes. As an example I have worked in medicine mainstream and alternative for 31 years. In all that time I have seen a total of 3 cases of diabetic ketoacidosis. They were all on the same day, and we pulled all three from the same nursing home and took the patients to the hospital. Two died that day. This was because the nurses in the nursing home were not giving their diabetic patients the insulin they required.
