Natural of course is always the preferred option in terms of quality than synthetic, and I do agree with your post.
The arguments for supplementation have been put forward by Orthomolecular Medicine with Nutraceuticals, which have been proven to be far more effective in fighting and even curing disease, with little if any side-effects, than their Pharmaceutical counterparts: which (as we all know) have serious adverse health consequences.
Big Pharma have not been slow to catch on to this "competition" and have used their considerable influence in suppressing health-claims and the Scientific research of Nutraceuticals.
Codex and the recent bills before Congress are evidence of this, as have their attempts in Europe to quash their competitors.
If successful, the legal backlash and repercussions will be overwhelming.
My own view is that in the absence of the natural elements for health-building and recovery, and for a variety of reasons, (such as inadequate sunlight exposure), quality supplementation in nutrition remains the only answer.
I for one, can vouch for the efficacy of this thru self-experimentation and research.
