I see the bible as more a collection of creative writings, from a collection of authors (all human), loosely pulled together and billed as the word of god, (the central character). A bit like a collection of fairy tales, (although in fairy tales there is a diversity of central characters), while fairy tales can be very useful tools for teaching various moral values, they are not meant to be take literally.
As there is no evidence whatsoever that the bible, or any other book, is anything more than the writings of various human authors, (although there has been considerable effort put into trying to find this evidence), I see no logic in viewing it as anything else. There is also no evidence that the central character of the bible, exists now, or has ever existed, outside of the book that contains this character. Much like there is no evidence of Harry Potter, existing outside the authors imagination and the books written, that contain this character.
