When I make yogurt, I use Nature's Way premadophilus powder for children. It has the following ingredients: I use the Easiyo yougurt maker -- super easy. I throw a heaping teaspoon (regular spoon not measuring spoon) in my milk mixture with a container of plain organic yogurt and some organic powdered milk. Always satisfied with the consistency, and the easiyo makes it super easy. You don't fool with thermometers, you don't heat the milk mixture. All you do is boil water and pour it in the thermos and put your yogurt mixture in the provided container and put that in the thermos after adding the hot water and put the lid on and wait 6-8 hrs. That's it.
I would like to find a probiotic powder that doesn't contain maltodextrin or silica, though but in the meatime this stuff works well.

Rice maltodextrin, Silica.
