 Adding silica to his water is a great start to help strengthen what is left of the teeth as well as connective tissues throughout the body. This includes the tubules in the kidneys, which are a primary problem area for cats. A diet that is too alkaline can damage a cat's kidneys. So the canned moist foods, which tend to be higher in protein would be better diet wise and would be easier for the cat to eat.
