If the poor guy has rotted teeth I would let him have some canned food again, there is no harm in that. There are many brands of Holistic Cat Food that you can buy.
Could you imagine having rotted teeth and having to bite down on rock-hard Crunchies just to eat to live? Ouch! Give him some good quality canned Cat Food, it will make him much more comfortable. I would offer him both canned and dry and see what he chooses.
I use an Enzyme/Probiotics powder for my Cat, I found this at the Pet Shop but you can order online too: It helps their digestion and breath:

A tiny bit of Milk Thistle in his food sometimes will be good for his liver. A little Oil in his food once in awhile will be good for his fur and skin.
Try giving him a little scrambled Eggs and see if he likes it, that will be good for his fur and skin too.
He might like to chew on some fresh Cat Grass even though his teeth are bad. You can get it at the Pet Shop, or Wheatgrass will work.
Give him a comfortable quiet place of his own to sleep away from people, and don't forget Catnip. That will get his mind off of things.
I had an 20 year old Cat who loved Catnip. I would get the dried leaves and put it on his Scratch Pad or even on the ground and he would roll in it. If he made it this long well you know everybody needs something lol!
If he still likes to play which most Cats do even when they get old, a few toys or a Feather "Teaser" will make him happy.
If I can think of anything else I'll let you know but that's should be a good start.
