What makes me think that maybe side effects do go away for most people after a while is that people who used to post alot stop posting and checking in after awhile. I figure they must be better, right? If curiosity gets the best of you, you could search for folks with your same symptoms from a year or two ago who have stopped posting and email them directly, maybe ask them to post an update on how they are doing? I know some do come back every year on their removal anniversary with an update. Those are always nice to see.
