Ever wonder how the phrase, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away?"

I got to thinking about it after doing a few liver flushes. I do the prep of drinking loads of apple juice 4-5 days before so the malic acid can shrink and soften gallstones. Also, the pectin in apples is very soothing and healing to the GI tract. With that in mind, you suppose it came from that fact that it helps keep the liver and bowel clean? I never gave apples the credit they deserve before cleaning my liver. They are pretty darn amazing!

I don't know when the phrase started but it would have had to have been during a time when all it would take was an apple to keep us clean, lol. Long before we became exposed to the toxins we are today.
