Is there any scientific basis upon which wheat germ would help?

I've been studying books on the principles of Ayurveda and herbalism to try and get an idea of how to change my lifestyle and dietary habits... I think I'm going to try some form of liver flush/detox in the near future.

At the moment I'm really run down with a cold/flu and a few neck break outs that are quite sore so I've been alternating putting tea tree oil and lavendar oil on them to try and help, whilst drinking nettle tea infused with ginger and sweetened with agave nectar to try and prevent Sugar spikes....
