I just wanted to say thank-you for posting. I am trying to make some decisions about what I am going to do when I try to get pregnant again. I am currently taking 50 mg and having detox so it will be awhile.I have Hashimoto's but have not had my antibodies rechecked yet (but I will especially after reading the article). One thing I did see in the article is that he refers to patients taking kelp supplements quite a bit and the one patient that he says is "taking a popular form of high dose iodine" does not say how much. One thing I have read is that the Iodine docs agree that Iodine in the form of seaweed can cause an increase in antibodies (not clearly explained why but I would speculate it is because seaweed is great at trapping toxins as well). Also, over on yahoo Stephanie states numerous times that her husband has Hashi's takes 50 mg and has gotten rid of his antibodies. She also provides Dr. Brownstein's explaination of why Iodine in smaller amounts vs. larger amounts will cause an increase in TPO antibodies (I will find the exact explaination.) That's not true about Flechas not dealing with babies he often cites a case study about a three month old iodine baby that could high five. I do know that he does not consult with people who have not taken the loading test I believe because of time constraints. I talked to Flechas about pregnancy and iodine after my iodine test. He advises 12.5 mg a day during pregnancy after reaching sufficiency (recommends a follow-up loading test to help determine this)and then going up to 50 mg after giving birth. I believe that this was still if one was going to breast-feed. We talked about this in another thread about the concern that going up could lead to more detox probably not a good idea if breast feeding. I plan on talking to him more when I get closer to trying another pregnancy. It seems to me that with the lack of controlled studies on women taking inorganic iodine that it is a judgement call. I wish you all the best- thank goodness you have a doctor that is willing to look at trying to wean him off the meds. Diane
