When Jesus said "It is Finished", He meant it. He had paid it all. The work was not incomplete. We don't finish what Jesus started. He is the Perfect Lamb of God.
That has nothing to do with what we are called to do as the body of Christ. We all have work to do here. Not all are called to leave their families, etc. We all have special gifts that we are meant to put to use. Of course, what we all do as a first step is accept that Jesus died to pay for our sins, and that we are sinners, then repent and turn from those sins. As we allow, He changes us into the people he meant for us to be. He fills us with His Spirit who teaches and councils us. He makes it possible to understand and put the scriptures into practice.
But Calvary and what He suffered in Gethsemane had no part in which we could or can ever assist. He paid the full price for our past and future sins. He sweat drops of blood as he prayed and felt the weight of all of our sins at once. He who knew no sin became sin for us. He paid it all.
No matter how holy we become, we will remain people who sin while in this life. We are called towards perfection, bt none of us is.
