Perhaps you could give him a small amount of olive oil mixed with lemon juice every day rather than the Hulda flush. The link below goes to a seven day flush that culminates in drinking more olive oil and lemon juice on the seventh day - you could just do the six day part for a period of time and see if it helps.

I can't imagine trying to get a five-year-old to do the regular flush.
