It's unclear to me whether cortisol from the adrenal glands in general helps fight infection or inhibits immune response. With too much cortisol, supposedly it kills off friendly bacteria, inviting infection from candida, parasites and bad bacteria. The idea of adrenal fatigue doesn't have too much support in medical literature, but naturopathic Web sites list it as a factor in infection or allergic reaction as well.
