The epsom salt, as well as mag citrate draw water into the colon, making expulsion of contents easier.

Either of these salts will work, for the mag citrate, I take liguid form, it comes in flavored 10 ounce bottles at the drug store. I use 1 ounce in 6-8 ounces of water, 4 times before a flush, and at leat two times after. Seems to work real good for me.

If I ran into someone in your situation, that would be my advice. 2 doses of mag citrate, 1 hour between, to release bowel contents.
