Maybe this will help put things in perspective:
Merck, other Pharma Companies Funding Activist Groups behind the EPA Petition to Regulate Silver
Friends of the Earth which received $45,000 from the John Merck Fund between 1992 and 2000 (and no telling how much in other years or from other pharmaceutical related foundations. From the above article:
"As an example of the subterfuge, one of the environmental groups which signed the petition, Friends of the Earth, sent emails this past spring to concerned members who used colloidal silver to assure them that they had no desire or intention to regulate colloidal silver, but then in June they publishes a position paper which stated, "We believe that all over-the-counter colloidal silver products should be immediately withdrawn from the market and their sale should be banned (unless approved as a drug by the appropriate regulatory agency)."
Looks to me like my article must have struck a raw nerve for them to come out with the above statement you posted. I especially like this part of their statement:
We have in the past received money from the John Merck Fund and the Merck Family Fund, foundations that were established with money earned by the family members who founded the pharmaceutical company. We have investigated the foundation and it has no ties to the company.
Let me get this straight. Friends of the Earth admits receiving money from two foundations named Merck which were established from money earned by Merck (which has billions in profits at stake with its patented antibiotic drugs), yet claim the foundations have nothing to do with Merck?
Meanwhile, none of the foundations which received pharmaceutical foundation support have shown any similar concern about the hundreds of millions of tons of pharmaceuticals which have been found in virtually every waterway in the U.S. Friends of the Earth or friends of those who butter their buns?
