Scientific medicine continually gathers statistical evidence on the effectiveness of treatments, I know because I have collected and analyzed such data. If a particular treatment is found to be ineffective, dangerous, and/or a better treatment is discovered, the old is discarded. Is there a similar mechanism for ongoing analysis and quality improvement in alternative medicine? Are nationally recognized "standards of care" devoloped by professional organizatons? Are there major universities and medical centers doing research and gathering evidence for the efficacy and safety of alternative medicine treatments - NO !!! Alt med holds on to their scientifically implausible treatments religiously and without waivering.

Comparison to religion is well founded; all is accepted on trust and faith without any substantial supporting evidence. It's largely authenticated by dubious anecdotal testimonials that cannot be verified by actual documented medical evidence. Purveyors are always personable and invariably have a remarkable ability to soothe and persuade the gullible Have you examined real before & after medical consultations, X-Rays or pathology reports for these “miracle” cures? A notable physician turned alt med promoter refuses to publically reveal her acual pathology diagnosis on file at Loma Linda University Medical Center to validate her claim that she self-treated her supposed breast tumor.

Many people who seek alt med have chronic conditions with fluctuating symptomology or self limiting conditions that will resolve whether they are treated or not. The perception of successful treatment is hallow, most likely resulting largely from the “placebo effect”.
