Scientology is typical of a controlling belief system, it presents a benign face to the world, and works very hard at defending any investigation of the deeper layers of its organisation.

If you look at the official website, you see this benign face. As well as the clever workings of the people who defend any questions about the true nature of this belief system.

If these belief systems are all about spirituality, why do they need these vast and expensive organisations? Why do they need power structures and leaders? Why, if its about an individuals spirituality, do they need to form vast groups of people who believe the same thing, and then defend these beliefs from the questioning of outsiders? If these belief systems are about individual spirituality, why is there a need for secrecy?
