Yes, it is OK. I was told to do this by my health consultant because it is much cheaper than buying the capsules. Just be sure the container says 99 percent food grade.
I buy and have used for years a product labeled "MSM for horses, 707 formula by John Ewing Company".
Try to find a book called "MSM and Mineral Ascorbates by Beth M. Ley Jacobs, PhD. It is a small pamphlet of about 45 pages and sells for about $3.95. I got mine at a health food store (Akin's). It will tell you all you need to know about the use of and the benefits of MSM.
One suggestion from the book is to use 1/2 teaspoon of MSM per 12 ounces of water. But the author also says the use really depends on the body weight so that amount is just a general suggestion .
