We really do project our reality and even our limited version of god and the separation it then goes on to create as a result.

You may want to look at some of Joseph Campbell's work on myth. It is interesting. Also some of Jung's work is also revealing.

An interesting model of the human psyche is the enneagram . Of course it too is a metaphorical model and just a starting point. Our freedom really exists beyond all models, beliefs, etc. It does require us to take our lives off of auto pilot though and take responsibility for our own creations. Not many are ready to do that just yet and cling to the training wheels of various belief systems. Trouble is, most people leave those training wheels on their entire life, which really hinders where they can travel. ;-)
