Let's flesh this example of yours out a little to fit the context of the bible more exactly without missing some important details.

"This is what non-believers don't understand. There is a love relationship between God and his children, those who believe in Him." <"Here's an example that might clarify this some, probably a bad one, but here it is: Say you find the greatest man in the world (you're a woman, so that's why I'm saying man, assuming you are not a lesbian). Do you stay in the relationship out of fear, or because you love him?" The difference being if you don;t love this man he will snuff you out of existence which induces fear to continue to love him. This kind of love is conditional. Love me or else. "If he is the greatest man in the world, then he loves you with the greatest love, and not just in words but also actions. He never hurts you." Better take another look in the bible. It is full of people and animals being hurt by god's interaction. Also he allows one of his other creations, satan, to do the torturing for him to "test" your love (obedience). Just ask Job ;-) "His love is great in every way. Do you do things for him then out of love, or out of fear? With God there is great reward at the end of this life, but there is also great reward now." What is the reward now other than a promise for later. Carrot leading horse. Christians are told to endure trials and tribulations in life with a promise for later. Convenient if you are a group of men who planted these words in order to have their slaves remain obedient. It's about a relationship with him, an amazing relationship with Him based on love, not fear." Fear is very much at the base of the relationship. Love me or you lose your life. That's not love. That's tyranny.
