>>"This study is misleading. If you read page 101 of the study the primary minerals used in the study (calcium, potassium, sodium and magnesium) are all citrates , which are the ACIDIFIED versions of these minerals."<<

The sentence above is misleading... alkaline minerals form compounds with acids... it is the way of things. It is NOT an either/or function... acid/alkaline works together...

>>"Furthermore they also had zinc, copper and selenium in the formula that all form anti-inflammatory, antioxidant enzymes. The reduction of pain could have been from the increase in these enzymes, which have nothing to do with acidity or alkalinity."<<

the minerals, "they" as you put it, DO NOT form antioxidant compounds, "they" are not active until acted upon... the gut microflora "act" on, and use these minerals, and others to form the compounds you refer too WITH these minerals.

for instance Streptococcus thermophilus forms a manganese based Super Oxide dismutase. Other microflora form various mineral based SODs... and ATP, and...

This is why supplementation generally does not work well in people that do not have a healthy gut full of these beneficial microorganisms.

>>"And finally they also use a molybdenum source, which helps to rebuild cartilage. This would also reduce the pain and has absolutely nothing to do with acidity or alkalinity."<<

Gut microflora are involved in manufacturing the necessary enzymes/compounds from molybdenum as well... molybdenum does not act on its own... see above.

This is why many people who take in a wide variety of beneficial/commensal microflora through their diet, and/or supplements find relief from Rheumatoid Arthritis ...
