Mighty,

Enemas of any kind were considered by the early Hygienists to be enervating to their patients and although practiced for a while they were discontinued for this reason.

However, time marches on and new developments are always coming to the fore, so a coffee enema would be a good idea before commencing a fast so as to stimulate the Liver into releasing more bile and cleansing itself. But, and it is a big but, is that these type of enemas are known to reduce electrolyte levels making a prolonged fast less likely and the benefits of it less likely.

In Dr Moss's own words and which I highly respect...............
"In a coffee enema, the coffee should be of the regular caffeinated kind and preferably organic. There is even a special brand of coffee that was created just for enema users.......
The coffee should be about half the strength of coffee used for drinking, and should be served warm, not so hot as to hurt tender tissues, but not so cold that it will bring on cramps. Finally, one should not do more than one quart per day, except under a physician's guidance".

I would personally think that if a quart per day is recommended then I would do so twice per day at one pint per enema: one quart = 2 pints.
Further to this I would say (in my opinion) that a coffee enema is unnecessary prior to a fast, unless there are specific and known Liver issues known beforehand, but if you are going to have one, it would be best to have one prior to the undertaking of a fast itself.

Personally, I would begin the coffee enema for six days, twice per day, prior to the fast. This should be sufficient time for the caffeine to work and kick-start Liver-cleansing which is continued on the fast itself.
Yes, overdoing it can severely deplete electrolyte salts.

I belong to the old school, which believes that enemas of any kind are superfluous, unless suffering from cancer and undergoing the Gerson protocol.
A fast will also cleanse the Liver: for example I have never undergone an enema of any description, or even felt the need to do so. I do not have Liver issues either.

Lifestyle issues will also cleanse the Liver as well, along with the rest of the body, especially if you minimize your calories and eat sparingly of nutrient-dense and high water content foods. As long as we help the body physiologically and conform to the Laws of life then specific cleanses are just not essential or even necessary.
The body is always striving in its efforts of cleansing and nutrition: consuming high-quality nutrition from outside, utilizing its vital constituents, and discarding the rest, whether you are awake or asleep 24/7.
Fasting just accelerates this process of drainage while living on stored reserves.

There is no advantage of a Liver cleanse or coffee enema or any other type of cleans that the fast will not do for the body on its own: the body actually prefers a Laissez-Faire approach in its efforts towards superior health. As I have said before, a coffee enema is much value in oncology.

This a democracy of course, and we are free to choose our own path, but this is my experience for over 30 years and that of others of a similar ilk.

Take care.

Chrisb1.
