Thanks - glad you like my avatar - one of my doodle creations.

I agree with you (and Spud), however, I would add the word "negative" before 'beliefs'.  Negative beliefs separate. Positive beliefs integrate. Perhaps we could let go of the words good and bad and replace them with separate and integrate instead.

Separation and integration... both these terms suggest that there is some 'thing' there to be separate from, or to integrate with.

I will not dispute the fact that positive beliefs are more beneficial than negative beliefs. But in the end both need to be dropped if a merging and melting with unbounded Freedom is to be ever realized. A positive belief can lead in the right direction, it can take one to the very limits of the intellect. But all beliefs are of the mind. And ultimate freedom is beyond mind. To move beyond mind, to move beyond the intellect, all beliefs, all concepts and ideas have to be left behind. However beautiful and enjoyable the belief may seem to be, the smallest bit of attachment to it will be bar the way, it will not allow an absolute merging with pure consciousness to occur.

The best analogy I can draw is this: A negative belief is like a dark cloud. A positive belief is like a white cloud. Pure consciousness is the open sky that lies behind both. Take your white cloud and say to it "disperse and disappear". All that is left behind is the open sky of pure consciousness.  It is the screen that all notions, all beliefs, all dreams, are projected upon.

Anyway, I am sure we could bounce this back and forth for an eternity. The only way for either one of us to really know is to experience this state for each of ourselves. Even then, if we did, how could we expect the other  to 'believe' what the other is saying is true, or not?

Feliz navidad -*- turiya
