The respiratory rate will always be taxed when faced with toxins -so the respiratory rate will decrease when the toxins are eliminated. A high respiratory rate is a sign of cellular stress, lack of respiration (oxygen) is a sign of damage to the cell. When the cells are damaged, they cannot do their thing. This was Warburg's work, the oxygen theory of cancer, that when the cell is damaged it reverts to an abnormal respiration leading to degradation. Any form of antioxidants will reduce toxins, also charcoal taken internally with fiber will help. Vitamin C in forms of ascorbates are very powerful.
