Mouseclick,
if the Doctors who specialize in nutrition and nutritional therapy cannot agree amongst themselves, then how does the ordinary layman know what to do for the best?

For example, Dr McDougalls newsletter here...............
http://drmcdougall.com/misc/2009nl/sep/fav5.htm

...........basically contradicts the information on DHA that you have reported on here by Dr Joel Fuhrman MD.........

Both Shelton AND T C Fry, two of the leaders in the Natural Health and Natural food movement suffered from deficiencies of both B12 AND the essential fatty acid DHA, DESPITE a diet high in ALA from plant sources that the body converts into this long-chain fatty acid of DHA !! There is scientific evidence that the human body does not convert ALA from plant sources very well and in some studies only by about one % !!!

TC Fry the healthy eating fruitarian/vegetarian and Natural Hygienist, died prematurely simply because long-standing B12 deficiency leads to extremely high homocysteine levels, which can cause intra-vascular inflammation and cardiovascular disease.
AND, reports Dr Fuhrman, there are primate studies to show that DHA deficiencies in monkeys actually leads to Parkinson's. And as we are primates, then this would also apply to us humans as well.

Dr McDougall and Dr Fuhrman therefore disagree on the use of not only salt but also on supplementation with B12 and DHA.

I'd personally go with the latter as a form of health insurance, just to make absolutely certain these kind of deficiencies do not arise in the future.
