Ladylove,

I agree with you in that Cayenne is a central part of the Eyebright formula as it speeds the circulation, but as far as I'm concerned they are all needed to produce the results Dr. Christopher and Dr. Schulze had.  Here is just a sampling of what each of them does.

The Bayberry Bark is an astringent that reduces the secretion of fluids, reduces pain and shrinks inflamed tissues.

Goldenseal has been shown to have potent anti-protozoal and broad spectrum anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal effects which is very important when dealing with diseased eyes.

Eyebright has been used for hundreds of years for eye health and is also an astringent that shrinks inflamed tissues, it has bitter compounds that relieve pain and are antiseptic and soothing to mucous membranes.

Red Raspberry is said to possess anti-viral properties, and some studies have shown that it kills virus, including herpes and fungi in cell cultures. It is said to be effective against herpes virus II, flu virus, and polio virus1, among others.  The lutein content in Red Raspberry is believed to be beneficial to good eye health.  It is a carotenoid that may be found in many fruits and vegetables, and researchers have claimed that this nutrient may significantly decrease the risk of developing macular degeneration of the eyes.  Even normal sighted people taking this herb have reported reduced glare and sharper vision, and it may also be helpful for anyone exposed to brilliant sunlight or computer screens on a daily basis.

There is no way I have the time to list everything each herb is used for and all the benefits they have lol, I could go on for hours typing out all the things these herbs do, the list is endless really.

The combination of all these herbs is nothing short of miraculous.  I was listening to Dr. Christopher's Herbal Lectures about the Eyebright Eyewash.  He told of a 25 year old man who had been blind from birth who after 6 months of starting with the eyewash could see light and within two years had regained his eyesight and was learning to read.  He said he had seen not hundreds, but thousands of people throw away their glasses using this formula and of course part of the healing was that they were eating a healthy diet, we can't forget that very important part.

I am not disputing the power of Cayenne, I LOVE Cayenne, its good for a plethora of things but what's that old saying?  If it ain't broke don't fix it!  Why would anyone want to change the formula that enabled thousands of people to restore their eyesight?  Not me, I'm sticking with the original formula.  Of course our environment is much worse now than it was when Dr. Christopher was alive so I can see doing more of a protocol but I just can't see any reason for changing what has been proven to be effective thousands of times in years past.

There is no way I would put just Cayenne in my eyes as an eyewash, that would be PURE TORTURE lol.  I wouldn't recommend anyone doing this to themselves, ever lol when they could use the Eyebright formula and still have the benefit of all the other healing herbs. Cayenne will NOT harm the eye but wowzer it sure would hurt!!!

Its always good if people make their own tinctures.  Dr. Christopher before he died used to encourage people to make their own tinctures, Dr. Schulze used to encourage people to make their own although he no longer does and Uny still does encourage people to make their own if they can.  I've made my own, several different tinctures in fact, I had the best time with it. Lots of fun.

Onward to healing our eyesight!

Willow
