..but Dr. Schulze used a lot more Cayenne in the formula than Dr. Christopher did.

Cayenne is in fact the central part of the formula from both Dr. Christopher and Dr. Schulze, who was Dr. Christopher's student.

In the Lalitha Thomas book "10 Essential herbs", Lalitha uses Cayenne alone as an eyewash with excellent results.

All this to say, that Cayenne is not simply an ancillary herb in the eyewash formula, but is in fact the very heart of it.

In very ancient times, Fennel was used with good effect as an eyewash, and I have read that for those who cannot tolerate the Cayenne in this formula, Fennel may be used as a substitute. The original formulae and its documented results however, rely upon Cayenne.

Here is Dr. Christopher's original eyewash formula and instructions for its use:

Quote:
. Eyewash herbal combination.
This formula is excellent for brightening and healing the eyes, and it is known to remove the cataracts and heavy film from the eyes: one part each bayberry bark, eyebright herb, golden seal root, red raspberry leaves, and 1/8 part cayenne. Make this into tea form and put into a glass eye cup. There will be a slight burning sensation when using the cayenne in the eye at first, but there is nothing to be concerned about. Tip head back and apply the eye cup to eye. Exercise eye while doing this as though you were swimming under water. Do this three to six times a day. Drink 1/2 cup a.m. and p.m.
Endquote.

Eye cups can be gotten from a Home Health store or from many savvy groceries or pharmacies. I have gotten at least 2 glass eyecupsin the last few years for about $3.99USD each. If it isn't available off-the-shelf in your pharmacy, they may be able to order it.

I would love to do this, but I cannot stand the heat of the Cayenne- I'm going to one of these days though.

Dr. Schulze used a lot more Cayenne in the formula than Dr. Christopher did.

I encourage everyone to make their own of these formulae, if possible.

If using Cayenne alcohol-based tincture instead of the powdered herb, you can dilute the tincture with hot water, wait a few minutes, and the alcohol will burn off, then go ahead and use it.

Good Health to All of Us,

Ladylove
