If you increase the frequency and still can't tolerate side effects at around 100mg every three hours, maybe you should give DMPS a try. I have not tried it myself, but it reportedly is much better than DMSA at suppressing symptoms of mercury poisoning according to Andy Cutler. Both DMPS and DMSA are similarly efficient at removing Mercury through kidneys. DMSA is much safer.
A word of caution: my above advice to increase frequency and increase the dose only applies to DMSA and DMPS, _not_ to ALA.
DMPS and DMSA are meant to suppress the symptoms of Mercury poisoning. According to Andrew Cutler, ALA is what makes us healthy again. That's where it gets real tricky. Since ALA releases mercury from internal organs such as the brain but lacks the ability to suppress the symptoms of mercury poisoning, by taking it we get sick all over again, this time being poisoned by mercury which is being released from our brains.
As a matter of fact, I once managed to poison myself by stirring up too much mercury with ALA. I got off to a good start by slowly ramping up dosage and I felt great at 200mg ALA + 200mg DMSA every three hours for three days. Once I _stopped_ taking ALA, however, I got unbelievably sick. I had to keep taking DMSA for a few more days just to be able to take care of myself. I do not know if a similar experience is behind Cutler's recommendation to take only half of the maximum tolerated dose of DMSA when taking ALA, so that you can double your DMSA if something goes wrong. All I can say is that every Cutler recommendation so far has proven right in my case and I totally stand behind it.
