Namasté Rainy Days,
Thank you for your input. I appreciate what you shared. I have noticed a huge difference in my skin from this fast (good changes), amongst other things. I know that my body has been dehydrated because I have not endured any migraines on this fast. I did experience 1 headache, which are nothing compared to my migraines, at least for me. I have suffered with migraines since the age of 5 and I have always had a neurologist. My doctors (Neurologist & Internal Medicine docs, as well as specialists in associative fields) have been stumped and actually encouraged me to seek alternative treatment. My only other alternative was to be diagnosed disabled because my migraines can be very debilitating. However, I chose alternative medicine, which helps quite a bit. However, I have never been able to avoid experiencing migraines on a fast until now. Odd? Well, at least for me it was, until I was led to the information about dehydration. It was the only thing that made sense and my body has responded in agreement to the information.
FYI: I am fasting because I received a message during meditation that I should fast for 40 days on water only. I wasn't sure what that meant, but I listen when I receive unquestionable instructions such as those, because I have been receiving them for about 33 years and they have never steered me wrong. I have a deep connection to my spirituality and honor it very much.
A little background info and update of some of my fasting landmarks: My father had a heart condition and his resting heart rate was abnormal (Tachycardia) for most of his life. He would often have ischemic attacks as well. I too have been challenged with the same thing (Tachycardia). My resting heart rate is generally between 110 and 115. Recently, and prior to the fast it started to increase. While on this fast for 10 days, my resting heart rate lowered to a fluctuating 90 - 100. By day 16, I saw occasional hints of 88s and 84s. At this point, the fast took a turn. I was starting to become extremely ill with dizziness & nausea. This went on for about 9 or 10 days. On day 25, I was ready to throw in the towel, I was just too sick. I said, "This is my last day. Tomorrow, I break this fast." The same night, while taking a bath and during prayer (I pray a lot or meditate while I'm bathing), I received another message instructing me to continue the fast.
Quick Note: During the fast: I have on a heart monitor 24 hours a day, unless bathing, and I monitor it throughout the day. I record my blood Sugar levels every morning, as well as my temperature, and my weight. All of this has been documented to share with my doctors and anyone else who is a fasting expert that I may want to share my experiences with at some point in the future.
Back to the update: I decided to listen and continue the fast. On day 26, the day after the bath and receipt of the 2nd message, my heart rate dropped to 72. I couldn't believe it. I have not seen this kind of heart rate since my teens. The next day it was 78, then 76. Ever since day 26, my resting heart rate has been below 80. I am now on day 35. If you look at the lowest point of my resting heart rate prior to my fast (110) and look at the lowest point of my resting heart rate during my fast (72), it has dropped about about 65 to 66%. That's incredible to me. My doctors couldn't even do this without prescribing meds. I believe this is why I was led to do the water fast, to correct this chronic problem.
Another point of note: My left elbow was crusty, dry, and bleeding prior to the fast. I don't know why. It just started all of a sudden about 4 months ago. I didn't have dryness of skin anywhere else. By the 7th day of the water fast, not only had my skin healed and cleared up on my elbow, but it was moist and normal. Weird, huh? It is definitely weird for me, but also very true.
Another interesting thing: Today I came across and article regarding tachycardia/fast pulse/abnormal heart rate and here is what the line reads: "Measuring the pulse can give very important information about your health. Any change from normal heart rate can indicate a medical condition. Fast pulse may signal an infection or dehydration. In emergency situations, the pulse rate can help determine if the patient's heart is pumping." http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003399.htm
Sorry to write a book, but I wanted to share a little more. This has been an extremely difficult fast because of all the illness. I have been horribly sick the past 4 days (about 20% greater than the days prior to day 25, which were already very bad). To make matters worse, I have began experiencing the vomiting every morning, which discourages me from drinking water, but I know that I must replenish since it is the only thing my body is consuming. However, I find that sipping the water, as opposed to drinking normal swallows or gulping, helps reduce the nausea somewhat. I find that this method requires me to consistently drink throughout the day though and I must start early to ingest an adequate amount.
I hope this information is helpful. So many of us are different and I do not believe that we will all respond the same, but it is helpful to hear others experiences to help us further discern what steps we are to take our journey.
I wish all of you the best, wherever your choice may lead you.
Blessings,
Ny
