Just a thought, is it possible that the puppet masters of all politicians are experimenting with how far they can push the envelope before people will rebel. Its quite a scientific approach, if this is what is happening.

If we put up a candidate with no provable lineage, will the people rebel?
If we then provide power and backing to said candidate, will the people rebel?
If we have said candidate reneg on election promises, or put up unpopular legislation, will the people rebel? How unpopular does this legislation have to be before people will not accept it?

So on and so forth, untill they discover the tipping point. Or more to the point, discover the point just before the tipping point.
