Remember Einstein had no formal degrees either. He was actually an "average" student in his early years (likely bored in school as I was). He received honorary degrees later in life.
Often the "schooled" learn about the paradigm shifters such as Einstein and Haramein after these thought pioneers carve new territory beyond the hived minds of their day.
Einstein was met with resistance too in his day and had the usual mediocre minds bash him based on no "accepted" degree. Not accepted by the mediocrity club that is. ;-)
Science is diverse. Scientists themselves can't agree amongst themselves, so it can't be used as some kind of measurement stick whether someone has validity.
Especially when you consider the political landscape of the scientific community, they tend to pull new thinking. pioneering of new realms, back into "the world is flat" kind of sensibilities.
