I am dealing with severe neurological problems, specifically muscle wasting, pain, and weakness, in my arms and legs. have you seen MANY doctors, had many tests etc. all of doctors are mystified
Talking to my ND yesterday he mentioned something about chlamydia pneumonia possibly being the causative factor.
Well, a little research shows that chlamydia pneumonia has been linked to neurological problems such as MS. This was very surprising to me.
The link to MS is very weak. It is not really considered a cause, but it believed to be a product of the immune system not being able to clear it out since it is not commonly found in MS patients. There is a much stronger link of human herpes virus type 6 in MS.
I did have pneumonia about 10 years ago and that begin my long slow slide, but I do not know if it was the chlamydia flavor of pneumonia. Apparently only about 10% of pneumonia cases are chlamydia pneumonia the rest are some other flavor which I cannot remember at the moment.
Pneumonia can actually have a number of causes. It can be viral, bacterial, fungal, chemical, etc. As far as Chlamydia goes the three known to cause pneumonia are C. pneumoniae, C. psittaci and C. trachomatis.
They can test for antibodies to Chlamydiae bacterium with antibody tests, and you should have your alkaline phosphatase (AP) levels checked. AP tends to be elevated with Chlamydiae bacterium.
Anyway, what do you know about chronic, long-term chlamydia pneumonia infection?
These type of bacteria are known to invade other tissues causing various symptoms including inflammation and demyelination. For example it has been known for decades that Chlamydiae bacterium are associated with rheumatoid arthritis. Because of both the inflammation and demyelination these bacterium can cause neurological disorders.
Any suggestions as to how to treat it?
First thing to do is to get checked for this to make sure that this is what you are dealing with. There are numerous neurological disorders that could account for these symptoms so it is best to try and confirm what you are dealing with first.
If it is Chlamydiae bacterium I would recommend the chaparral, thyme, horseradish root and eucalyptus oil combination I have mentioned in previous posts for the lungs. You also need to address the bacteria that may have become invasive elsewhere. For this I would recommend chaparral, pau d' arco and andrographis with a little licorice root and yucca root for the inflammatory component and to increase absorption and effectiveness. It can be a little difficult and treatment with antibiotics is usually long term. Again a reason to confirm this is what you are dealing with.
Once the infection is dealt with then the myelin can be dealt with by supplementing lecithin granules, essential fatty acids and B12.
