I am so sorry I didn't catch your post earlier. Hopefully you are still checking in...

from your post:

"When I was using Mirena, there were a few days during which I felt as though I was on a VERY heavy dose of dissociative drugs (i.e. ketamine, DXM, PCP, et al). That is, I felt very detached, would lose ability to speak (incapable of forming words/sentences), altered perception, hallucinations, hazy thoughts, hazy memory... I was not under the influence of drugs. Well, only Mirena. Has anyone else had a similar experience?"

absolutely. the mental fog is extremely common. I had all of the above except the hallucinations. It was like being in a bubble. I could barely work/think. Intoxicated. Couldn't remember the day before.

"I was on numerous atypical antipsychotics (risperdal, seroquel, zyprexa, abilify, geodon) and vistaril at various times during the past two years. (Diagnosed bipolar/schizoaffective/something like that). All gave me terrible reactions."

When I first went to the doc I was complaining of extreme agitation, insomnia and alopecia. He told me that it was all caused by depression, even though I told him I was NOT depressed. Being the good "sheep" that I was, I let him prescibe me zoloft. within a couple day I had a full blow panic attack. it was terrible. (serantonin syndrome I believe.) because of this attack, he decided I was "bipolar", and that I needed to see a shrink. I did, and the psychiatrist told me I was definitely not bipolar. My GP, however, was not convinced, and subsequently put me on seraquol (total zombie-backed into my mothers car) and depacote (again, lifeless zombie). Everytime I tried to talk to him about it being from a physical cause, he told me to go to counceling.

"I wake up every morning with my heart beating out of my chest, with feelings of absolute horror."

yes! pretty common.

"I can't seem to gain weight. I was not large before, and I've lost a good 25 pounds since Mirena. I've started having muscle stiffness and pain all over my body, radiating out from the base of my skull and between my shoulder blades. I feel like there is clay under my shoulder blades. And it hurts."

I lost 40 lbs. couldn't gain to save my life. I saw my chiro 2x's a week.

Sorry for the long post-I needed to quote you to get it right. If you read back through this forum, you should be able to find someone who has experienced every single one of your symptoms.

I have seem many problems posted about the endocrine system from the mirena. the last poster was correct. You can also try a rheumatolgist. I found them both to be very helpful. I would be curious to see what the neurologist says. I don't remember see too much come up positive on that end-which is probably a good thing!

best of luck to you. please keep us updated.
