I've done extensive castor oil packs and have never really had it "cure" anything, yet I've received many an "uplifting" of spirit and energy and that's why I've used them and continue them from time to time.  I've had knee problems and have found that just by wrapping a small castor oil pack onto my knee and covering it with plastic wrap - without heat, that I get the same uplift that I do from the heated abdominal pack.  There has also been some benefit to the soreness of the knee.
