Nearly every winter I start to get pretty chronic anxiety (absolutely baseless anxiety; although there ARE stresses in my life, my body will find a way to panic about nearly anything irrelevant!). Sometimes it is set off by something traumatic/stressful, other times it begins out of nowhere. I also feel myself getting more and more depressed as the days get shorter.
Lately, I've been getting horrific nightmares. Aside from that, I will wake up in the middle of the night or early morning (sometimes after I have slept a sufficient amount of time, but it is always still dark outside) shaking uncontrollably. I won't remember having a bad dream or having anything to be anxious about, but all of the physical symptoms of a severe panic attack are there. I am shaking very violently, I feel scared for no reason, my stomach aches and my heart is beating wildly.
I have been able to alleviate these symptoms in the past with B12 supplements, but this winter, I'm not taking the same type that I took before, and perhaps not the same dosage. Regardless, for a few days, my anxiety completely vanished, only to come back with a vengeance recently. My diet is very clean, no fried foods/excess sugars/etc. and plenty of organic vegetables and proteins. I don't take any medication but I'm starting to think about it. I take a multivitamin, fish oil, chromium, chlorella, 5HTP, B12, calcium, and occasionally acetyl-l-carnitine. I am on a homeopathic supplement as well (gold/arsenic) but I don't know if it's helping or hurting.
Please help.
