Guys,
I am a calm, dispassionate person, and anything I post is not meant to rile up people's emotions.
I never said that I believe that cheilosis is contagious. But there is no harm in intellectually considering it, especially if a source boldly states that it is possible.
I think it's good to look at any possibility. I know that it could be upsetting to think that this affliction, or the root causes of it, could be contagious or passed from person to person, but if there is even a .01% chance of it, it's in the realm of possibility.
I also think that if a source says "cheilosis" and only the term "cheilosis", then it is reasonable to consider that what they are talking about could apply to all the types of cheilosis. I also believe that I mentioned in my original post that the author was probably referring to "angular cheilosis", so it's not like that escaped my attention.
I also think that many people, even some doctors, refer to exfoliative cheilitis under the terms "angular cheilitis/cheilosis/stomatitis". This may be partially mistaken, but there are precedents for it.
I also think that any theorized causes, and any possible treatments, for angular cheilitis might be worth considering when it comes to exfoliative cheilitis.
When you say that "no one on here... has suggested" that people they are close to also have the same symptoms, actually in a couple of the threads that I read which had the word "contagious" in them - and in at least one of those that I provided a direct link to in my original post - some of the posters were saying that people they were close to seemed to be getting similar symptoms.
I know that my exfoliation is a "symptom" of something. It's perfectly possible that the underlying factor that originally caused the symptom was picked up from someone or something else, whether it was from someone else's skin or mouth, or a lipstick, or jewelry, or whatever.
