Your experience is maybe what you base your opinions on, but I'd rather put my trust in a medical doctor who has also a masters in biochemistry...

Opinions based on personnal experience and Internet research don't give the whole picture.

Just because I read this and that on the internet about such and such a supplement, doesn't mean it's the whole picture.

Actually, alpha-lipoic acid is first and foremost an antioxydant and helps the body make use of vitamin C and E better.

It has been used in Europe for restoring the liver for a long long time.

Of course, people try this and that supplement, not even knowing what it will do and if it's really needed. But as Stan says, what else is there to do?

Olive oil and raw eggs for a sick liver, I don't think so...

Personnally, I will put myself in the hands of a knowledgeable doctor when I can get to one. In the meantime, I try this and that, but one thing at a time, very carefully and keep things to a minimum.
