Bone Density doesn't seem to be addressed here at CZ (maybe I missed something?), maybe it's not a very common affliction except among the elderly who insist on using drugs instead of alternative methods.
With past generations (especially 50/60 years ago), many people still lived on farms or got regular exercise from daily life and had healthier/fresh foods that were unadulterated from preservatives , etc., so bone density might not have been as big a problem then (or was recognized as anything out of the normal old age progression). In contemporary society, many people have grown up with electronic games and convenience, we (society) really don't stress our bodies in daily life or get as much healthy/fresh food like we did before, so the sports that society is accustomed to when society was more active and healthy don't really seem so appropriate anymore (more stressful than we can now endure).

The vegan diet and avoidance of dairy likely conribute greatly to loss of bone strength because these are usually treated as 'fads' and applied carelessly to health the same as diet sodas/foods (dieting/avoidance of calories is now confused with 'health',....health is acheived by SODA?).
The use/overuse of medication is also no doubt a large factor.
