Gadgie,

Really, it sounds like you're doing it all right. You were a different person a year ago, so you can't really compare then to now.

You're only in the first week. You can't expect... what? 25- 30 years?... of toxic build up to go away in 5 days. You are experiencing really, really normal detox symptoms. I know the dry- and probably itchy- skin can drive you nuts, but it's a part of the process during a juice fast. Normal, normal, normal. Feeling cold is normal, feeling tired is normal, feeling cross is normal, feeling edgy is normal. You're pretty textbook, dude. Enjoy loving how fascinating our bodies are!

Are you eating any plant oil, like olive or flax or wheat germ? During kidney week I have to remember to add more oil into my diet, because I get enough during the Liver Flush drinks, but I notice drier skin during kidney weeks. Just something to play with.

Remember our skin is an elimination organ, too. We have to take care of it. You're doing longer showers (probably) twice a day. This can dry out your skin as much as the juice does. On the IP, we're supposed to brush our skin with a natural-bristle brush, and really scrub every inch of our skin (more gently on our faces and tender parts, of course) before we jump in the shower. When we're done, we're supposed to buff our skin dry till it turns pink with a 100% cotton terry towel. This helps to slough off dead skin cells and toxins we are releasing through our skin. We're also supposed to work up a good sweat every day while exercising and/or sitting in a sauna. In addition, Dr. Christopher had everyone do a three oil massage rotation daily of castor bean, olive, and wheat germ oils. Dr. Kelley said to slather on the oil at night before bedtime, hop in a hot tub to soak and sweat, then jump in bed with heavy covers and sweat for an hour before falling asleep. I think this may have been his version of the cold sheet treatment, but his purpose in stating this was to get toxins out through the skin.

Your skin is a mess right now, but it's going to be gorgeously glowing before too long. :)

On the anxiety attack- yup, that's normal, too. You could say you're reacting to the coffee, but you're reacting in a positive way. Remember the liver is the seat of the emotions, and negative emotions are stored in our cell memory and body tissues. As we detox, we release old, tied up emotions into our bloodstream just as much as any other toxin. You'll find that your emotions are all over the map during your healing journey. This is very, very normal, Gadgie. You have to just love yourself through it, and talk to your loved ones about what you are doing so they hopefully don't react negatively to you.

We are triune beings, Gadgie. We have our body/temple/shells, our souls, where the emotions are, and our spirits, which is God in us. With natural healing, we're working on the whole person. We're trying to bring everything back into balance. Many, many diseases are rooted in the emotions. Of course, partying all night long, cramming for exams while popping caffeine pills, taking every over the counter drug for every cold and sniffle, and eating at McDonald's every day for lunch for 20 years hasn't helped, either.

With our emotions, we have to learn how to unblock them and express them in healthy ways. When we were very little, we cried when we got hurt and threw temper tantrums when we were mad. Dad told us "big boys/girls don't cry," and Mom "whooped" the dickens out of us when we were naughty. Some of us had unstable relationships with adults when we were kids, so we experienced anxiety/fear/panic. So we learned to stuff our emotions.

Those memories are still in there, and when something triggers an old memory, we can still feel that old emotion. It's a really great idea to keep a journal of your thoughts and feelings during the IP, Gadgie, because it's a beautiful way to discover who you really are, and to track your emotional growth as well as physical and spiritual growth.

I can't wait to see who the real Gadgie is. He's in there.

I'm with Uny. It takes time to figure out the rhythm of the IP. You're biggest challenge that I see at the moment is getting your colon to work better. Once you get to that "3-5 amazing BMs a day" point, you should start seeing some things start clicking for ya.

Buckets of blessings,

Wings
